Members and guests attended a presentation by Daniela Riachi on the life and work of Carlo Catani (1852-1918), whose projects included the St Kilda foreshore reclamation, Catani Gardens, Memorial Arch, Elwood Canal, and many other works across Victoria.
The presentation marked the centenary of Catani's death and explored his Italian heritage, immigration, relationships and family, engineering projects and design aesthetics.

Daniela's book, From Tuscany to Victoria: The Life and Work of Pietro Baracchi, Carlo Catani and Ettore Checchi, which was shortlisted in the 2006 Victorian Premier's Literary Awards, was available for purchase at the event.
