A grand mansion built c1857 on a relatively narrow site next to Oberwyl, demolished c1970
A substantial house of restrained character, with projecting pedimented bays, and an inset verandah between of Corinthian piers and wide, probably timber, piers at the first floor, with openwork cast-iron panels.
It is not shown on Kearney's 1855 map, but is in the 1857 (ratebooks?) as an 11 room house occupied by Dr Charles M Lempriere, and owned by William Prell (who lived in Dalgety Street).
S&M 1873 C M Lempriere, physician, at 'D'Almeida', next to Oberwyl, Burnett Street.
A photo dated 1872 shows the house without the projecting bay on the south side, which matches the 1873 Vardy plan. The MMBW plan of 1896 shows the the south bay was added by then.
A marriage notice of 1887 notes Charles' full name was Charles M D'Almeida Lempriere.
By 1893 the house was known as Hinkley, when Mrs Thomson advertised vacancies for 'families and genterlmen'.
The 1949 photographs held at the State Library show by then the house was called Inveravon by then, and other photo from the 1960s how it was a guesthouse.
The flats on the site now appear to date from the 1970s.
